Drifts

Drifts are calculations to help you compare if what Samsung DSP has delivered complies with your campaign setup.

These forecasts are executed based on theCampaign Start Date,End Date, andObjective.

Available at the Campaign and Flight Listing pages, where you can specify a budget, impressions, clicks, conversions, or advertiser spend.

Calculations

The Drift percentage is calculated by taking into account the duration of the flights/campaigns (i.e. the number of hours between the start date and the end date) and the objectives (budget, impressions, clicks, conversions, or advertiser spend). From these two elements, an expected objective is calculated.

For example, if you have an objective budget of $600 to be spent in 5 days (5X24 hours = 120 hours), the expected budget to be spent per hour would be $5.00 (600/120).

If you take a look at theDrift after the first 3 hours of delivery, the expected budget to be spent would then be $15.00.

TheDrift will consider the latest delivery data available (so up to the last 2 hours) and compare it to the expected objective for that time frame.

The expected hourly objective is not updated if the campaign or flight has been under or over-delivering. It is only updated if one of these settings are updated: Start DateEnd DateDay Parting, and/or the objective.

For example, if your campaign’s expected hourly spend is $5.00, but the first 2 hours, it only spent $2.00 per hour, the drift will still consider that $5.00 is the hourly goal, but it will need to spend $11.00 in the next hour to catch up to the expected delivery of $15.00 for the first 3 hours and have a drift of 0%.

Formulas

Drift can be calculated so that the result can be presented both as a percentage or as an integer value.

The following section is written as a math formula: / means divided by* means multiplied by.

Formulas for drift percentage

  • Budget: ( (Buyer Spend / Budget) - ( (Current Time - Start Time) / (End Time - Start Time) ) ) * 100
  • Impressions: ( (Impressions / Impressions Goal) - ( (Current Time - Start Time) / (End Time - Start Time) ) ) * 100
  • Clicks: ( (Clicks / Clicks Goal) - ( (Current Time - Start Time) / (End Time - Start Time) ) ) * 100
  • Conversions: ( (Conversions / Conversions Goal) - ( (Current Time - Start Time) / (End Time - Start Time) ) ) * 100
  • Advertiser Spend: ( (Advertiser Spend / Advertiser Spend Goal) - ( (Current Time - Start Time) / (End Time - Start Time) ) ) * 100

Formulas for drift value

  • Budget: Current Buyer Spend - Expected Buyer Spend at this time
  • Impressions: Delivered Impressions - Expected Impressions at this time
  • Clicks: Delivered Clicks - Expected Clicks at this time
  • Conversions: Tracked Conversions - Expected Conversions at this time
  • Advertiser Spend: Current Advertiser Spend - Expected Advertiser Spend at this time

Interpretations

A positive spend drift means you are spending more than expected.

A negative spend drift means you are spending less than expected. For example, if your campaign expected hourly spend is $5.00, and for the first 2 hours, it only spent $2.00 per hour, the drift will be negative (-1.00%).
