Article summary

Samsung DSP App Install allows users to create audiences based on TV users who installed or uninstalled a Smart TV app in a given time period.
This feature also helps to attribute TV app installs for campaigns.
When used in conjunction with App Launch or App Usage, Samsung DSP helps advertisers reach their users based on engagement.

Example Use Cases

  • Target TVs based on if/when a given App has ever been installed.
  • Target users who have manually installed apps, demonstrating intent.
  • Helps build App Install conversion audiences to enable lift reporting and show the impact of advertising with Samsung Ads.
  • Provides uninstall events to account for win-back use cases, retargeting TVs who could download apps again.

OR

  • Rolling Window: The Rolling window enables the creation of audiences based on a continuously refreshed dataset with respect to the current date, e.g., last 7 days, last 30 days, etc. The rolling window period can be up to a year, defined either in days (1-365) or weeks (1-52), and requires an end date. For the end date, any day between the current date and up to a year ahead may be selected.

App Install

  • What is the difference between a manual app install and built-in?
    • Manual install events occur when a user installs an app, while built-in represents an app installed automatically by the TV. This occurs when an app has an agreement with Samsung to be automatically available with a given TV.
  • Why do I see manual installs of popular apps, shouldn't those be built-in only?
    • While many popular apps do automatically install, there are some occurrences of manual installations. That can be due to the timing of when an app may have started its agreement to be built-in or if a user performs an uninstall, then subsequently installs manually. Proportionally, apps with agreements vastly skew towards built-in installs.
  • Why am I seeing an audience of refinement error for uninstall segments?
    • The Audience Refinement feature supports the installed segments, but not the uninstalled segments since the feature will only allow for one refinement qualifier.
